Our relationship with coffee goes back many years. Ingenious player which wakes us up in the morning, takes our fatigue and helps us focus while working,We have many reasons to drink that miraculous, black-seeded plant every day.
This 1000-year journey from Ethiopia has witnessed many unusual events. Although in fact the homeland of coffee is known as Yemen, the first coffee was brought to Yemen by the Turkish commander Ozdemir Pasha from Ethiopia, formerly known as Abyssinia. The name also comes from Kaffa, which is the old name of that region.
Coffee has faced many prohibitions throughout its history. It was said to be against the rules of religion and sharia in Islamic states. In fact, this rumor was spread to prevent the people from getting together for coffee so that they could gather and start criticizing government affairs. Statesmen who were afraid that coffee would deepen the conversation banned coffee in many places. Coffee, which became more and more attractive with each ban, turned into a passion, and finally it got its freedom.
The first coffee was brought to Istanbul by a man named Hekim from Aleppo in 1554 and a man named Şemsi from Damascus. These two cooked the coffee they brought from Tahtakale and sold it to the tradesmen. When coffee enthusiasts multiplied, the first coffee shop in Istanbul was opened. Well-known scholars, dignitaries of the country and office holders quickly became coffee enthusiasts.
